International. Numerous energy-saving measures resulting from industry involvement are contained in the recently published ENERGY EFFICIENCY STANDARD of ASHRAE and IES.
Standard 90.1-2016 ANSI/ASHRAE/IES, Energy Performance Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, contains 125 additions published since the 2013 standard. The 2013 standard currently serves as the reference standard for commercial buildings for state building energy codes.
This 2016 version is the tenth edition published since the original standard was first published in 1975 during the energy crisis in the United States.
"The overall goal of each release is to create an energy-saving consensus standard that is technically feasible and cost-effective," said Drake Erbe, chair of the Standard 90.1 committee. the 2016 version has a new format that we believe will be easier for users, a new way to incorporate reference material from other standards from climate data, and a compliance trajectory that rewards designs to achieve energy cost levels above the minimum standard."
