United States. One World Trade Center has become the tallest LEED-certified building in the Western Hemisphere. The 104-story (541 m) tower recently earned LEED Gold certification, according to New York and New Jersey Port authorities.
Among its sustainable features are environmental sensors throughout the building that report on energy consumption and air quality to a centralized building management system, while mechanical systems are responsible for achieving maximum efficiency in relation to the occupation of the environments.
Also, elevators equipped with frequency and voltage drives generate additional energy for the building through the braking system. In addition, the cladding surrounding the glass walls of the building minimizes the gain of solar heat while allowing natural light to reach 90% of the interior spaces.
