United States. The Japanese company Mayekawa and the North American companies CIMCO and SCE are collaborating to install and collect data on the performance of the NewTon cooling system in the United States.
This system uses the natural refrigerants ammonia and CO2 to achieve higher levels of efficiency and energy savings compared to conventional technologies. These companies partnered to install the system at a food manufacturing catering center for Japanese restaurants in Irvine, California.
Companies expect the system to provide 20-50% energy savings and impact the environment to a lesser extent. Mayekawa will monitor the cooling system in real time to make sure there are no problems. SCE will then collect and analyze performance data from the NewTon and the existing cooling system, which will work side by side.
Mayekawa's existing data on the performance of the NewTon system shows that ice sands achieve an average of 50% energy reduction; cold storage facilities showed an average energy reduction of 27.8%; and freezers in processing plants showed an average reduction of 20% in electricity consumption.
