International. The Port Authority of Tarragona (APT), Spain, has received the certificate of the Energy Management System according to the ISO 50001 standard, granted by the AENOR. Currently, 170 Spanish companies, of which 12% are located in Catalonia, have this ISO 50001 certificate for energy management. Spain is the third country in the world by number of Energy Management System certificates in accordance with ISO 50001, according to the latest report of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Worldwide, nearly 7,000 organizations have certified their ENERGY Management ISO 50001.
The president of the Port Authority of Tarragona Josep Andreu received from the hands of the director of AENOR in Catalonia Eva Subirà the ISO 50001 Energy Management Certification.
The advantages of the implementation and certification of an Energy Management System are based on the improvement of energy management and optimization, as well as on the reduction of consumption and associated financial costs, promotion of renewable energy and compliance with current legislation. All this has a positive influence on the reduction of greenhouse gases and the mitigation of climate change. At the same time, it offers competitiveness and commitment to the business organization; all aspects that the APT has improved to enter into the most efficient management of natural resources:
- Renovation of the luminaires of the mobile bridge by LEDS.
- Installation of solar panels in the customs building and in the new PIF.
- Installation of remote control in public lighting towers.
- Incorporation of electric and hybrid vehicles to the vehicle fleet.
- Improvement of the energy classification of buildings.
- Construction of a new port police building with energy classification A.
- Improvement of the efficiency of the drinking water supply network to the port.
From here, new actions are foreseen that will continue to improve the energy management and environmental impact of this organization.
