Argentina. A refrigeration plant known as Estancias del Sur, which had stopped operations in August 2015, will start work again from next March, after the acquisition of the Chinese holding company, Foresun Group.
The group of businessmen from that country acquired the facilities from the Brazilian group Marfrig after it had to close them for lack of quality raw material for export and compensate more than 600 employees.
According to the mayor of the city of Unquillo, Jorge Fabrizin, the directors of the Chinese firm promised that "in March the refrigerator will begin to operate."
For his part, the president of the Association of Refrigerators and Meat Industries of Córdoba (AFIC), Daniel Urcía, commented that the Group "has sufficient payment capacity to acquire the raw material", however, he added that "the results obtained in foreign trade operations are not yet positive".
The local press highlights that Foresun Group seeks other investments in the sector, in addition to the purchase of Estancias del Sur, and that "they would have closed agreements to buy the Hughes refrigerators, in the province of Santa Fe, and Vivoratá, Buenos Aires territory".
When it operated at full capacity, Estancias del Sur slaughtered 15,000 animals per month and had a quota of the Hilton quota of 1,000 tons, which was lost as a result of the closure and that the new owners are now reprocessing.
