United Arab Emirates. DuPont Refrigerants reported that with the help of the public force in the United Arab Emirates, they managed to carry out an effective attack against the counterfeiting of refrigerants of their Suva brand.
With the help of a prevention program from dubai's Department of Economic Development (DDED), the multinational company became aware of counterfeit refrigerant products sold and stored by Sunrise, a refrigerant trader.
The investigation confirmed that the company was in possession of counterfeit refrigerant cylinders bearing the DuPont and Suva brand, as well as brands from another manufacturer (name was not disclosed). The inspection resulted in the seizure of 3,100 units of duPont ™ Suva ® 134a fake refrigerants and 6,000 fake units from the other manufacturer.
As a consequence of the counterfeiting activity, Sunrise must pay a fine to the Government of the United Arab Emirates for the crime committed, and was forced to make additional payments to cover the costs related to storing the seized goods, painting and packaging the cylinders without DuPont's trademarks, and exporting them as unbranded refrigerant. This operator is no longer in business.
