International. A project to save energy at U.S. embassies in Europe inspired embassies in Washington, D.C. to promote it in the same way. The vision of the project is that embassies should become platforms for energy innovations, showcasing the latest technologies that highlight best practices in efficiency.
More than 40 embassies and international organizations have committed to making their buildings and operations more sustainable. In Europe, the "Sweep" project is already underway in which these sites commit to making their facilities more sustainable.
The energy saving project in Europe includes:
• 45-76% in outdoor lighting.
• 23-46% in heating.
• 14,400 gallons / 54,500 liters of water (the amount used for 350 loads of laundry).
• 528 gallons / 1,900 liters of oil, equivalent to six tons of CO2 avoided.
Companies such as Danfoss, 3M, Cree, Niagara Conservation, Philips, Whirlpool and Johnson Controls participate in these initiatives.
