Regarding this recognition, Thomas M, Connely, executive vice president and head of the company's innovation area globally, said that DuPont responds to the changes that the world is going through with an emphasis on meeting the demand for food, protecting human lives and the environment, while reducing the use of petroleum-based fuels.
According to The editor-in-chief of Technology Review magazine, Jason Pontin, DuPont was selected thanks to its work with butanol, "the company, in partnership with the pre-trelera BP, can help obtain much more attractive biofuels. In our list are the companies that have shown the best innovation in the commercialization of new technologies; they not only stand out for inventing technologies but also for using them to transform our lives and ways of working."
In 2009 DuPont and BP created a co-investment called ButamaxTM Advanced Biofuels, to introduce biobutanol to the market. This alliance is responsible for the research and development of biobutanol to bring new applications to the global market after four years of biotechnological and fuel development tests.
Craig F. Binetti, president of DuPont's Applied Biosciences worldwide, said biobutanol is an ideal molecule for automobiles, and that this program is ready to produce the fuel in high commercial volumes.
