Panama. Panamanian President Juan Carlos Varela appointed Roque Maldonado Guilbauth as the new Secretary of the Cold Chain.
Since 2015, Maldonado served as an advisor to the general direction of the Institute of Agricultural Marketing, where he worked on the implementation of improvements in administrative management, special projects and human resources.
Maldonado Guilbauth has 11 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, performing different functions and positions in different business units, establishing strategic relationships with customers, economic sectors and suppliers of products and services.
He has also specialized in operations management, logistics, transportation, distribution and supply chain; efficiency and management control.
The Cold Chain includes two components: the construction of a network of seven markets in the country (at a cost of $202 million) and the construction of the collection centers awarded to the Panama Cold Consortium, for $75 million.
Of the total project, two markets and four collection centers were inaugurated. Local media indicate that of the two markets opened, only one works. The one in Chiriquí operates at 70% of its capacity. Panama does not yet expect to receive the production that would arrive from all the provinces, because it does not have access roads or water supply.
