The renewable energy sector in Spain currently employs 68,737 workers, a figure that, if the Government keeps the new National Action Plan for Renewable Energies of Spain (PANER) unchanged, would only increase by 16% by 2015, just over 11,000 jobs, according to the 'Study on employment associated with the promotion of renewable energies in Spain' prepared by the Trade Union Institute of Labor, Environment and Health (Istas) and presented by CC.OO.
The study also indicates that to those more than 68,000 positions that currently exist should be added the more than 44,000 indirect jobs that are also due to renewables, so it indicates that of those more than 113,000 jobs 44.6% come from the wind sector, 28.4% from the photovoltaic sector, 9.8% from the thermal sector and the rest of subsectors, in which the biomass that employs 5% of these workers stands out.
The union has stressed that renewable energies are a sector in which employment is "long-term" and "high quality". Thus, the report points out that 83.7% of the staff has an indefinite contract, that the average salary is 52% higher than in the rest of the sectors and that more than half of the positions are occupied by personnel with high and medium qualifications.
However, the training has also highlighted that it is a "highly masculinized" sector in which of the total number of employees, only 26.6% are women who carry out their activity mostly in the administration departments of companies.
FORECASTS FOR 2015 AND 2020.
Regarding the labor expectations of renewable energies in the next five and ten years, the training has stated that if instead of pretending to meet the objectives of PANER, which they consider "unambitious", it was sought that by 2015 30% of the final energy was produced by renewables, they would be able to create about 50,000 new jobs only by 2015 and the sum of total jobs in the sector could even reach 202,000 positions in 2020.
Likewise, the study includes a pessimistic perspective in which if the Government's objectives were not achieved, jobs would fall by 28% in 2015 and the increase would be only 41% in 2020.
"Spain's bet cannot be only propagandistic, it demands a series of policies that are not being carried out. TO CC.OO. is concerned that other countries will form the leadership for renewables," said the organization's confederal secretary for the environment, Llorenç Serrano.
'GREEN CENT'.
As for the application of the 'green cent', Llorenç has considered that it is a proposal that was in his work plan, but that what they have known about the processes of the Energy Subcommittee of the Congress is "unambitious".
"It seems to us that as a country we assume a very ambitious goal for 2050, but we believe that it is essential to define intermediate layers. 2020 is not enough, but a relevant change in 2030, because we will have to consider what to do in nuclear plants, and also have a mix set for 2040, "concluded the secretary.
