Used batteries represent a very serious environmental problem in our country, and the companies that import them ignore the issue, added in an interview the president of the organization of young environmentalists of Salina Cruz, Milton Carlos Díaz Chehìn, who said that within his actions implemented for the protection and care of the environment , there has been the campaign "Salina Cruz Ponte la Pilas", where about 10 thousand tons of this hazardous waste has been collected at the state level.

For more than two years, the organization launched a plan to collect batteries and batteries and together with about 10 tons of that material and that did not reach the landfill.

The batteries are made of a hazardous material, there are batteries that contain lead, zinc, mercury and other substances that can be dangerous to our health, said the environmental leader of Salina Cruz, Díaz Chehín.
In an interview, he said that companies must take care of the collection of their batteries, much we do not have the greatest idea to do with the batteries we already use, most of this material reaches the garbage dump, causing a series of contamination to the soil, air and water, he said.

He said the batteries cause mental disorders, cancer and other health problems because of the substance they are made of, he said.

He also recommended that the population continue to participate in the campaign to collect alkaline batteries, pirate batteries and the so-called button batteries of watches, since the collection centers installed in the municipality and in the region will be permanent, so I urge society to consume rechargeable batteries, since this lasts three times longer than normal batteries, he said.
