The Minister of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, Miguel Sebastián, has known in El Hierro the state of execution of the works of the future hydro-wind power plant with which this Canary Island will become the first isolated territory in the world to aspire to energy self-sufficiency with the use of renewable energies such as wind and water and has assured that if it works it will "demonstrate" that wind energy can be combined with the hydraulics to give you stability.
The minister, according to a press release from the island institution, has been accompanied during his visit to the works by the president of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero, the president of the Cabildo de El Hierro, Tomás Padrón, and the general director of Endesa Generación, Manuel Morán, as representatives of the society in charge of the implementation of this ambitious project, Gorona del Viento.
"It is a fundamental project not only for the island of El Hierro, but for Spain, because it will demonstrate that it is possible to combine wind energy with a system that guarantees stability through hydraulic energy," said Sebastián, who has also valued his links with the initiative that aspires to convert the mobile fleet into electricity using clean energy from the plant.
The socialist has also affirmed that the Iberian Peninsula is also an island from the energy point of view because it is not connected to France, so he recalled that everything that is put in place in El Hierro, advanced in this sense, will be good for France and Portugal, as well as other isolated territories of the World.
Finally, Sebastián has considered that El Hierro will have a great future in the short and long term and that it is extraordinarily located for the so-called sustainable tourism. In many countries, in Europe and the rest of the world, there is more and more a great ecological awareness and a growing interest in knowing emblematic projects related to clean energies and the responsible use of water, explained the minister, which places El Hierro in the "pole position".
