Barcelona has inaugurated on Tuesday the first multipoint and intelligent charging station for electric motorcycles in the city, located at the intersection of Llull street with Bac de Roda, which has the capacity to simultaneously recharge up to six vehicles, and which will be the first of these characteristics to enter into operation in Spain, next to the one located on Passeig Joan de Borbó.
The company that has installed these two stations in Barcelona is Mobecpoint, together with Schneider Electric and Iberdrola, and plans to install more than 15 charging stations in the city, which are free for users of electric motorcycles through a card dispensed by the City Council.
In the coming months, three new charging points will be activated in Barcelona: one in Ciutat Vella, another in the 22@ district, and one more in the South Campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
The intelligence in the management of these Mobecpoint stations is based on the fact that they allow you to reserve a day and time for recharging, as well as to decide the recharge time of the motorcycle, both through the mobile phone and the website.
In addition, the user will be notified via email or mobile phone when the recharge process has been completed.
Schneider Electric has contributed to the development of the stations and has provided the necessary solution and technology for the management of electric charging, and Iberdrola has installed the stations and will supply green energy, from renewable energy sources, free of charge until 2012.
The company Moveo has been responsible for the development and implementation of the intelligence and programming of the stations, allowing applications and possibilities unprecedented until now in recharging points for electric vehicles.
Throughout this year, Barcelona and its surroundings will have 20 Mobecpoint stations, which will simultaneously serve more than 120 electric motorcycles.
PILOT CITY
The Councilor for Urban Planning of the City Council, Francesc Narváez, said during the press conference of presentation that Barcelona can offer "something different" compared to other cities, since there are more than 300,000 motorcycles circulating in the city, of which currently 50 are electric.
Barcelona has 136 surface charging points for electric vehicles, both motorcycles and cars, and plans to reach 200. (EUROPA PRESS)
