The wetland of the lagoon system of the Tamesí River is the only freshwater reserve that consolidates the urban and industrial development of the Metropolitan Area of the South of the State of Tamaulipas, means a reserve of valuable aquatic ecosystems with a rich biological diversity of flora and fauna; represents an invaluable Asset Capital from the market point of view in the hydraulic and ecological aspects, which must be used under a sustainability framework.
The existing environmental balance faces various threats that deteriorate it due to urban development, therefore it is urgent to take measures and awareness about its value and the contributions we can make for its rescue and use.
