Pedro Marín passes the first cut as a candidate to preside over the international renewable energy agency

The former Secretary of State for Energy Pedro Marín has overcome the first cut within the selection process of candidates for the general direction of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena, for its acronym in English), sources in the sector told Europa Press.

Of the 69 candidates who were initially presented, 24 have passed the first cut, including Marín, who maintains his firm willingness to lead the international agency after leaving just a few days ago his position in the Ministry of Industry, in which he will be replaced by Fabricio Hernández.

Of the 24 candidates in the race, Marín is the only Spaniard, while the United States has four, compared to the three that Germany and India have managed to place in the next phase of the selection process.

Only three women appear in the group, including the German Beate Bund, and apart from the candidates from Spain and Germany, there is only one other European country with aspirations, which is France.

Industry had made public at the end of last year Marín's interest in directing Irena, whose general assembly will meet in April to appoint the new ceo among four finalists. The agency has representatives from 150 countries. (EUROPA PRESS)
