The first ecological-intelligent house made of wood and designed by students will be for sale in Finland within two years, the head of the research center at Helsinki's Aalto University, architect Kimmo Lylykangas, said today.
The house, of about 120-150 square meters, will be able to generate with the help of solar cells an amount of energy that will exceed its own annual consumption. Its square meter will cost 2,600 euros, which in the opinion of the authors of the project will be a competitive price.
The ecological house will generate electrical and thermal energy. But at the same time it will be connected to an electricity grid to deliver surplus energy on sunny days and take what it lacks on cloudy sky days.
This sustainable house built of pine wood can be exploited both in cold climate conditions of Finland and in the hot areas of Europe. "We already tested it in Spain in the summer of 2010," said the architect.
