The Reimagine beverage container, a recycling concept developed by Coca-Cola Recycling in collaboration with Environmental Products Corporation (Envipco), accepts aluminum cans and PET plastic bottles. And no, the machine doesn't discriminate against Pepsi drinkers.
Unlike other recycling centers where you have to put the containers inside the machine one by one, Reimagine accepts bottles and cans in bulk and this one rewards you for each recycled item, thanks to a conveyor belt and an optical scanner system that also sorts and crushes the bottles and cans. The machine is part of the My Coke Rewards Program with which you can donate funds to schools or participate in contests.
John Burgess, president of Coca-Cola Recycling said:
"We know people want to recycle but when recycling is difficult or inconvenient, many of the beverage containers end up as waste. We believe Reimagine will increase recycling as it is easy to access and fun. "
Reimagine's pilot unit will be unveiled at a mall in Arlington, Texas, on Nov. 30 with plans for other units to be placed in malls around the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Depending on the success of these machines, Coca-Cola Recycling will expand the program.
