Hochtief and the shipping company Beluga will build together a special vessel intended for the installation of offshore wind farms, which they expect to be in service in 2012, the German construction group said.
With this vessel, the company seeks to meet the demand for special machinery to address this type of renewable energy facilities that it believes will emerge in the coming years.
Hochtief said in a statement that it expects to reach an annual turnover of about 500 million euros with its entire offshore facilities business.
Therefore, the company, which will also use the boat for all kinds of work and constructions that it has to carry out on the high seas, even considers ordering a second ship of these characteristics.
According to their data, this first vessel, which has been commissioned from crist's Polish shipyards, allows to reduce "significantly" the assembly times of wind turbines on the high seas. Specifically, it will be able to install each year more than 80 turbines, of a height of more than 120 meters, in water depths of up to 50 meters, according to the company owned by ACS.
