International. Vienna Airport is offering a new and innovative solution for the transport of temperature-sensitive products, called VIE Cool Handling.
The airport partnered with an Austrian automotive engineering company to create four new custom refrigerated trailers, which will improve the transportation of temperature-sensitive air cargo.
Each refrigerated trailer has a volume of 22 m3 and is adapted for standard containers, pallets or loose cargo. Each refrigerated trailer houses an integrated cooling unit that can run electronically or on diesel fuel, meaning a safe temperature level can be maintained during provisioning and transportation on the airport platform, even in extreme weather conditions.
The temperature of each refrigerated trailer can be adjusted individually, allowing the user to comply with international norms and standards and adapt the temperature appropriately to each product. Food, plants and medical supplies are the main temperature-sensitive products transported through Vienna Airport; temperatures from +2 °C to +8 °C or from +15 °C to +25 °C are needed.
This new transport solution ensures that products can be handled continuously at temperatures ranging from -20°C to +29°C without interrupting the cold chain.
