International. Although still emerging, the net-zero energy housing (NGRA) market is expected to be led by new construction in North America, navigant Research said.
Other countries in certain regions, such as Europe and Asia-Pacific, are also beginning to do the same with ZNE initiatives and energy-efficient building codes. According to a report by the research firm, North America is expected to lead the ZNEH market between 2015 and 2025.
"California is leading the push toward ZNEHs around the world with its goal of achieving 100% of newly built homes to be ZNEs by early 2020," said Neil Strother, principal research analyst at Navigant. "However, other states are also starting to take small steps toward residential energy efficiency and ZNEHs."
Although Europe and Asia-Pacific account for a much smaller share of the nascent market during the forecast period, both regions are expected to grow rapidly, according to the report. ZNEH units in Europe, for example, are expected to grow from 185 in 2015 to more than 1,500 in 2025 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.4%.
