Mexico. A group of students from Jocotepec High School created a project based on the laws of thermodynamics and solar energy called the "Ecological Air Conditioner", which will participate in the Mexican Science and Engineering Fair, in Guadalajara, and in the Expo Ciencias contest, to be held in Tampico, Tamaulipas, in December.
The prototype was built with recycled material or commonly used in homes: a plastic and unicel canister, thermal insulation, metal sheets, wood, hose and vegetable seeds, because the water used by this device serves to hydrate a small garden.
Noemí Villaseñor, who is part of the group that worked on the project, explained that "in January of this year we began to study the effects of heat, with that knowledge and taking into account the issue of climate change and that not all people have resources to pay for an air conditioner, this idea arose."
The professional added that the project will be made some modifications to improve the efficiency of the solar panels and other tests with which they can reduce the price of the equipment, which at the moment is around 1,000 Mexican pesos (about US $ 60 dollars), since the objective is that it is marketed in people who do not have the ability to acquire a conventional air conditioner.
