International. Personal Cloud is a system designed by Carlo Ratti Associati that uses motion tracking and ceiling-mounted misting elements to provide people with a direct, localized cooling cloud.
This project was presented in Dubai, during the inauguration of the Government Future Services Museum, an exhibition of future interactive designs launched at the UAE Government Summit.
Visitor recognition is achieved through ultrasonic sensors embedded in the suspended canopy structure, and data from these sensors feeds a central control system used to activate hydro-valves and LED lights in proximity to the target. The effect will be that of a fall of fog, activated by the visitor.
Personal Cloud belongs to a broad set of studies on location-based temperature control infrastructures, exploring how to make public spaces in cities like Dubai more livable and sustainable, by synchronizing human presence with climate control.
