Spain. A team of researchers from the Institute of Automation and Industrial Informatics of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV - Instituto ai2) has developed software that allows optimizing the operation of air conditioning and ventilation systems.
The system called Smar Setpoint (Smart-SP) uses weather forecasts, considering the approximate number of people who will be in the place that day and the weather, and can anticipate sudden changes in weather or manage holiday periods or weekends in a more effective way.
According to the researchers, while the operation of current air conditioning and ventilation systems is planned weekly or even by days, this software, based on computational intelligence methods and predictive control based on models, calculates the most appropriate values and allows easier and more efficient management.
The development has been awarded the first prize in the category of Innovative Ideas of the LESS competition (Low Energy Solutions for Shops), organized by the Valencian Institute of Building in collaboration with the Consum Cooperative and within the framework of the European initiative Climate-KIC.
