United States. California will be the state where the two largest solar towers in the world will be built.
The companies Abengoa and BrightSource Energy reached an agreement to promote, build and operate these two towers. The first company will be in charge of executing, operating and maintaining the project, while the second will provide the solar technology and design the plants.
Each of the towers measures 230 meters and will be 250MW of solar thermal energy, enough to produce energy in 200,000 residences and reduce the emission of 17 M t of CO2; will be located in Riverside County.
The new design where the towers will be located will be reduced by 13%, from 1,767 to approximately 1,537 hectares, and water use will fall by 50%, due to the use of air cooling.
The project would begin at the end of this year once the obtaining of the permits and their promotion is completed.
