Brazil. The Brazilian factory of raw materials for the beverage industry, Union Distillery Maltwhisky, adopted air conditioners within its facilities as a means to avoid excessive evaporation of alcohol attributed to hot air.
Without proper air conditioning, an oak barrel with a capacity of 200 liters loses approximately 10 liters of product. From the installation of the equipment, the company perceived a significant reduction in raw material waste.
Everything that evaporates gives losses. If there is less evaporation, the winner is the final consumer, since the costs to manufacture the product are lower and therefore will represent a lower value. "The air conditioner works very well because we can maintain the stability of the wood, avoiding the waste of alcohol," said Union Distillery supervisor Gênio Guerini.
The company has four industrial line air conditioners, with the capacity to move 5,780m3 of air per hour, which guarantees a process of distillation and aging of the bases of the whisky made efficiently. This product, called malt distillate, must be aged at least two years and always subjected to mild temperatures.
