United States. U.S. President Barack Obama asked Congress for a total of $2.27 billion for the Office of Energy and Renewable Energy (DOE), a value that is included in the fiscal year 2013 budget.
Obama's idea focuses on efforts to cut solar costs by 75% by the end of this decade, investing in innovation and generating new clean energy and national security jobs.
The U.S. president also hopes that this initiative will allow research into clean energy technologies to continue , which may lead to a one-third reduction in oil use by 2025.
With that budget, Obama hopes, among other goals, to improve the residential air conditioning by 2013 of one million homes, make buildings 50% more energy efficient by 2030, reduce energy demana and federal greenhouse gas emissions by 2015 and 2020 by 30% and 28%, respectively; make solar energy competitive and wind energy will account for 20% of electricity use by 2030.
