Brazil. The municipality of Armação dos Búzios, state of Rio de Janeiro, will be a benchmark in the consumption of energy efficiency in the country and in the region thanks to a project called "Cidade Inteligente Búzios", which foresees works to convert the energy distribution network to a smarter grid, capable of integrating all existing generation.
This initiative, promoted by the Spanish company Endesa, will offer the possibility of applying differentiated rates according to the consumption schedule; the use of LED lamps in street lighting; a greater incentive to the energy efficiency of public building installations, in addition to a distribution network with automatic control systems.
According to Marcelo Llévenes, president of Endesa Brasil, the change in infrastructure aims to promote smart consumption and contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions. "The project aims to demonstrate the viability of a broad set of advanced and sustainable technologies to make possible a new model of energy management," he added.
The city will have smart electric vehicles and bicycles, two energy recharging sites and renewable energy generation points. In addition, the lighting will have new LED lamps and luminaires with wind microgeneration and other remotely harvested light points.
