New Standards on Ship Recycling ISO/PAS 30006:2010 and ISO/PAS 30007:2010
ISO has published two new specifications on the
Ship recycling contributes to sustainable development and is the most environmentally friendly way of disposing of ships, making virtually every part of the hull and machines that can be reused. However, many international reports have pointed to poor working practices and negative environmental impacts.
The ISO specifications aim to offer guidance for the preparation of ships for recycling and will also help to minimise the use of potentially hazardous materials and waste generation over the life of a ship; in addition to responding to market expectations related to the environment, safety, health and wellness issues in the ship recycling industry.
