Mexico. The federal government, through the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), is carrying out the Comprehensive Systematic Savings (ASI) program, which aims to promote the replacement of refrigeration equipment with more than 10 years of use, with new energy-saving equipment.The government grants bonds of 1,800 Mexican pesos (US$138) to make the change of refrigerators, the rest of the value of the appliance is financed for four years.
This program also includes the replacement of low energy efficiency air conditioning equipment with high efficiency products, the change of incandescent bulbs for compact fluorescent lamps, as well as thermal insulation in ceilings and walls for the domestic sector that would allow the reduction of electricity consumption and the improvement of comfort in the home.
For this year the CFE expects to avoid approximately 600 thousand CO2 emissions in coolers and more than 150 thousand in air conditioning, to reach in 2010 more than 750 thousand emissions avoided in refrigeration and about 250 in air.
