Colombia. The export of about 40,000 tons of biodiesel annually to the United States and the European Union is being prepared in the departments of Santander and Bolívar, in the north of the country. Through an alliance signed by thirteen associations of small and medium-sized producers, the American Texas Biodiesel Corp. and the Colombian AVM S.A., three palm oil extraction plants and a biofuel producer will be put into operation, which will be located in the Magdalena Medio region.
Texas Biodiesel will invest US$80 million of which 45% will be used in the construction of the extractors, the processing plant and the improvement of the transportation infrastructure; the remaining 54% will be invested in strengthening crops. The manager of AVM, César Gómez, told América Economía that the technology that will be used will reduce production costs by up to 35% and will require less space.
