Brazil. The Brazilian Association of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Heating (Abrava) estimated that 4 million pieces of equipment were sold in the country last year, mostly for homes and small businesses.
This represents an increase of 38% compared to the first half of 2023, a figure that would show a strong recovery compared to 2022, when sales were strongly affected by the high interest rates prevailing at the time.
Market behavior
All in all, evidence points to consumers paying higher prices in 2023 to buy this equipment. IBGE data shows that retail prices have increased by almost 10% in recent months.
In October alone, the price increase reached 6.09%, the second-largest increase among non-food items measured by the Broad Consumer Price Index (HICP).
Background to the sales boom
According to Toribio Rolon, president of Abrava's Commerce and Distribution Department, the upward trend in sales began to take shape during the first half of last year, specifying that between January and June, 1.483.000 split-type devices were sold in Brazil.
