International. AAON, Inc. announced that it has selected R454B, with the lowest global warming potential (GWP), refrigerant to replace R-410A in its product line.
AAON anticipates that it will begin using R-454B refrigerant in select products by the end of the third quarter of 2023 and will transition the full product line to the refrigerant with lower GWP well ahead of the expected phase-out dates of refrigerant regulation.
"After testing and evaluation, AAON selected R-454B for a variety of reasons. R-454B has a low GWP of 466, resulting in less overall environmental impact and potentially having a longer lifespan in the face of future refrigerant regulations," said Brent Stockton, AAON Director of Engineering. "The capacity and properties of the refrigerant are also similar to those of R-410A, which means the change will require less time and reduce the cost of redesigning our products."
"AAON manufactures the most sustainable equipment in the commercial HVAC industry," said Gary Fields, president and CEO of AAON. "We are committed to providing our customers with the best solutions to comply with ever-evolving environmental regulations."
