Latin America. Temperature-controlled storage and logistics provider Emergent Cold Latin America announced two recent strategic moves in the region. In Guatemala it was made with the acquisition of the company Bodegas Frías (in the image), while in Lima, Peru, it announced the project to build a new winery in the Port of Callao.
Founded in 2006, Bodegas Frías currently operates three locations located in Palín, Villa Nueva and Quetzaltenango, with a total capacity of almost 20,000 pallet and earth positions for expansion. The three headquarters are strategically located in the main cities of the country. Bodegas Frías offers comprehensive storage, including complementary logistics services of the cold chain.
Neal Rider, CEO of Emergent Cold LatAm: "Guatemala is an important market for our investment in Central America because of its growth in domestic consumption and its role in global trade. We are very grateful to be able to enter the market with the industry leader. I want to congratulate the Bodegas Frías team for their success in the market. We also recognize and thank our allies at Losa Group, who supported us during the process."
Construction in Peru
Currently, Emergent Cold LatAm is present in Peru with Cold Piura since 2019. Cold Piura has a warehouse of 7,300 pallet positions, a processing plant and an IQF (Individualized Rapid Freezing) for food. With the new project, the company seeks to take the leadership of the sector in the country, offering frozen storage and services for both local customers, as well as importers and exporters of fruit, vegetables, seafood and other foods.
This is the third construction in development in partnership with DP World, a strategic ally for Emergent Cold LatAm. For this project, there is 25,000 m2 of land to build the winery, with the possibility of future expansion. DP World will be the anchor customer, as well as a transportation service provider. The winery is located 14kms north of the Port of Callao, the main port of Peru, with a capacity of 2.3 million TEUs and excellent access connections to the terminal and the city of Lima.
"Peru is experiencing a period of accelerated development, with a growing middle class, but with a cold logistics infrastructure still well below current needs, despite the growth in the import and export sector. Additionally, Lima is one of the thirty most populous cities in the world, with a total of 11 million residents. We believe that we must have a presence in this market and provide a modern infrastructure according to the importance of the region," said Neal Rider, CEO of Emergent LatAm. "The Emergent Cold Piura team will support the project by sharing services and new employees who will be hired directly for operations."
