Dominican Republic. The temperature-controlled logistics facility will be located inside the DP World terminal at the Port of Caucedo, a free trade zone near the city of Santo Domingo and a gateway for food trade from across the Caribbean.
Since Caucedo is the newest and most modern port on the island, in addition to its privileged location, it becomes a strategic point for Emergent Cold Latin America (Emergent LatAm), which wishes to continue positioning itself as a storage and transport provider, offering high quality solutions in end-to-end logistics at a controlled temperature. This is why the construction of this headquarters becomes a key step, which will begin this month and expects to be operating at full capacity in April 2023.
The new building will have a sustainable construction design with EDGE certification. It will have an initial capacity of 8,000 frozen and refrigerated pallet stands. It will offer a wide range of solutions at different temperatures for the local and regional market, including warehouse storage and other value-added services. In addition, this headquarters will use state-of-the-art technology and high standards of the food industry. Another particularity of this construction is that it will be built to allow a future expansion in its capacity and services.
In that sense, Emergent LatAm, in partnership with DP World, will provide its customers with an integrated supply chain solution, which will include container haulage and maintenance, as well as domestic distribution services. The parties have also committed to explore development activities at other DP World sites in Latin America, to enhance their service offerings and expand their cold chain offerings.
Neal Rider, CEO of Emergent LatAm, commented: "Having evaluated in detail the need for improved cold chain infrastructure in the Dominican Republic, we are excited to enter the market for the first time with this new high-quality facility from our strategic partner, DP World. This investment further demonstrates our intention to become the leading temperature-controlled company in Latin America."
Matthew Leech, CEO and General Manager of DP World for the Americas, said: "Partnering with Emergent Cold Latin America allows us to jointly integrate our customers' refrigerated supply chain and provide logistics solutions that simplify their supply chain. Emergent LatAm fits perfectly with the service vision and strategy of DP World's Logistics division throughout the region, enabling trade and expanding our logistics offering."
