Latin America. A total of 18 Latin American companies were selected by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, to test new climate-smart and efficient cooling technologies as part of the TechEmerge program, which also chose 13 cutting-edge innovators from around the world.
The TechEmerge Sustainable Cooling Innovation program in Latin America is funded by the UK Government under its International Climate Finance portfolio and offers a total fund of $1.5 million in grants to support the implementation of pilot projects.
The innovators were competitively selected by TechEmerge and its expert panel of independent advisors, and then paired with leading companies in Mexico and Colombia. Together, they will carry out more than 20 pilot projects to test in the field and validate innovations in industrial and commercial cooling, temperature-controlled logistics and space air conditioning, among others.
"Cooling prevents vaccines and drugs from losing efficacy. It is key to delivering perishable products to markets and producing fertilizer and electricity, but it also accounts for 15 percent of global energy use and 10 percent of greenhouse gas emissions," said Elizabeth Martinez of Marcano, IFC's Country Manager for the Andean Region. "I congratulate our partners in these TechEmerge pilots for their commitment and ingenuity in advancing innovations that can meet the growing demand for HVAC and refrigeration while offering one of the most cost-effective ways to fight climate change."
- The selected companies in Mexico are 7-Eleven Mexico, Oxxo, Sigma, Fermic, Desarrolladora y Constructora Metropolitana, New Transport Applications, Norcul, Refrigeración Starr and the University of Guadalajara.
- In Colombia, the chosen companies are Carrocerías el Sol, Aliar, Helados Popsy, Procaps, Refrimarket, SEI Soluciones, Serviparamo and Tecam.
- The 13 innovators selected were Heat Inverse (United States), Pluss Advanced Technologies (India), Konverter Engineering (Mexico), BiofreshTech (Spain), OT Services (Colombia), PackID (Brazil), Elgressy Engineering (Israel), Flair (United States), A.T.E. Enterprises (India), Latius (Mexico), Indafre (Colombia), Purix ApS (Denmark) and Promethean (India).
TechEmerge and its panel of independent advisors will support pilot projects during field trials, mitigating financial and operational risks for innovators, reducing adoption risks for local businesses, and facilitating market entry and technology transfer.
TechEmerge has a strong track record of matching innovators from around the world with leading companies and organizations in emerging markets to test disruptive solutions, build business relationships, eliminate investment risks, and accelerate the adoption of innovations where it's needed most.
Its programs have helped raise hundreds of millions of dollars in financing and investment, established business relationships, supported private sector growth in key sectors, and scaled up innovative solutions that are expected to benefit millions of people each year while addressing some of the world's most pressing problems. development challenges.
