International. Carrier Transicold reached its 50th anniversary when in April 1970 it began specialized operations for refrigeration equipment for land, sea and rail transport in order to help preserve and extend the food and pharmaceutical supply chain globally.
"For half a century, Carrier Transicold has been a world leader in refrigeration, helping in the safe transportation of food, medicine and other perishables around the world," said David Appel, president of Carrier Transicold & Refrigeration Systems. "Building on a strong legacy, Carrier Transicold has a broad portfolio of products and services that meet customer needs and address the growing demand for refrigerated transportation as the world's population grows and urbanizes."
Brief history
Carrier Transicold was created in 1970 when Carrier acquired Transicold Co. and combined it with its specialty products division. This firm pioneered, in 1968, refrigeration equipment for offshore containers. However, Carrier already had experience in refrigeration systems for trucks since 1940.
It should be noted that approximately 80% of the perishable cargo that is transported by sea moves in refrigerated containers, and the vast majority of these are controlled with Carrier Transicold's temperature systems.
In its history, the brand has sold more than 1.3 million refrigeration units, and has also developed innovations to improve cargo protection, environmental sustainability, performance and efficiency.
It is important to mention that it also provides support for parts and services through a global network of distributors. In this sense, the company continues to make a difference by having products that reduce emissions and increase fuel efficiency.
As a Socially Responsible company, since 2017, Carrier has contributed $600,000 to Feeding America for the purchase and installation of truck and trailer refrigeration units for some food banks in the United States, as well as donations of refrigeration equipment for the safe transportation of perishables in support of the French Federation of Food Banks.
