Carrier develops multipurpose control platform for HVAC applications

International. Carrier developed its new TruVuTM multi-purpose control (MPC) platform for the monitoring and control of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment. This control platform consists of a TruVuTM MPC processor, with integrated routing and BACnet integration capabilities, along with expansion modules that can be added to support up to 180 total I/O points for a variety of HVAC applications.

The TruVu MPC processor is the first controller to be added to Carrier's new TruVuTM product line. The TruVu product line consists of native BACnet, IoT-enabled drivers that are programmable in the field and customizable for any team application. They are also expandable to support additional IoTs, and provide large amounts of trend storage, integrated fault detection and diagnostic (FDD) capabilities, and plug-and-play connectivity to the Carrier i-Vu building automation system. This allows building operators to manage their HVAC equipment from anywhere and at any time by using online dashboards and reports.

The TruVu MPC complies with the BACnet (B-BC), BACnet Router (B-RTR) and BACnet BBMD (B-BBMD) device profiles of the BACnet as defined in BACnet 135-2001, Annex L 2012. It is capable of controlling multiple pieces of HVAC equipment simultaneously, and includes a complete library of factory-designed control programs. These programs have been designed and tested to work with air-side and water-side HVAC systems, without the need for custom programming, saving engineers valuable time. If customization is required, Carrier's SNAP graphical programming tool can modify the library control programs or create new ones from scratch.

The MPC also presents:

  • DIN rail or screw mounting;
  • Supports up to nine I/O expansion modules in a compact configuration or mounted at a distance of up to 1000 feet;
  • Compatibility with Carrier communication sensors to detect environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity and CO2 in a building;
  • Integration capabilities to connect and manage up to 200 Modbus points;
  • Built-in tools/diagnostics to help operators troubleshoot BACnet network communications as well as capture BACnet traffic.
