Colombia. The Mallplaza El Castillo shopping center in the city of Cartagena will have the largest solar roof in this country.
A total of 3,150 solar panels are located on 5,155 square meters of the terrace and will illuminate the common areas of the place. This project was executed in partnership with Celsia.
This system will have a capacity to generate 580.5 kWp, which means replacing 408 homes per month and will produce 1,305,900 kWh/year of clean energy. In this way, it will meet 13% of its energy consumption.
"We want to be an actor that contributes to the reduction of the carbon footprint with sustainable initiatives and projects, this is a fundamental part of our mission. Therefore, we decided to join the use of renewable energies with the installation of solar panels in our operation in Cartagena, "said Pablo Pulido, general manager of Mallplaza Colombia.
According to Celsia, the energy production of this system will stop emitting 479.3 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, which is equivalent to the CO2 captured by 79,480 mature trees in the same period of time or to reforest 71.5 hectares.
