Venezuela. As part of the Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Destruction Project, the first pilot test of the ODS Dosing System was recently carried out, led by the Venezuelan Fund for Industrial and Technological Reconversion Foundation (Fondoin), and carried out in the company Indugas, located in Paracotos, Miranda state.
During the activity, it was confirmed that the ODS dosage complied with the injection flow to the incinerator required by the cement company, having as its main purpose to comply with Decree No. 638 on Standards on Air Quality and Air Pollution Control.
The ODS dispenser is equipment designed to inject a refrigerant gas directly into the cement kiln in a controlled manner, where it will be incinerated or destroyed in its entirety.
Edgar Oropeza, consultant to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and creator of the system, stressed that "The destruction of the ozone layer affects all living beings on the planet. Therefore, we present a team that doses ODS, avoiding the greatest number of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere."
On the other hand, Pedro Sallent, consultant of Fondoin-UNIDO, emphasized that the institution throughout its trajectory, has collected more than 300 kilos of R12 Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), a substance that contributes to the destruction of the protective layer and that is expected to be incinerated, and injected into the system through the ODS Dispenser.
Hazel Tovar, technical advisor of Fondoin stressed that "CFCs are gases that are used in various applications, mainly in the refrigeration industry and when released into the atmosphere have a long time of 50 to 100 years".
He also indicated that "The test is part of the adjustments that are made so that Venezuela, through the Venezuelan Cement Industry (Invecem), located in San Sebastián de los Reyes aragua state, relice the destruction of the substances."
