Colombia. The initiative: "Technicians in refrigeration and air conditioning for the reincorporated population" was presented by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development through the Ozone Technical Unit, the National Learning Service (SENA) and with the support of UNDP.
This initiative seeks to offer a group of FARC men and women the opportunity to develop their job skills as refrigeration and air conditioning technicians. The announcement was made within the framework of the First International Congress for the Management of Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and its Contribution to Climate Stability that brought together the national and international scientists who know the most about the subject the previous week in Bogotá.
The aforementioned entities, together with the National Apprenticeship Service (SENA), have been working together to expand training capacity for the proper management of ozone-depleting substances in the refrigeration and air conditioning services sector in Colombia. So far, 9,500 technicians have been certified throughout the country who today have a job performance option.
"The post-conflict is fundamental for us and has to do with the environment. We want to help the reincorporation and one way is this work so that many of the ex-combatants can reintegrate into society by studying, and at the same time we contribute to taking care of the ozone layer, "said the Deputy Minister of Environment, Carlos Alberto Botero.
The group of reinstated that accepts this invitation will be formed by SENA for one year, after which it will carry out its work practice for six months with one of the companies in the sector. Once the training cycle is finished, the technician must pass the necessary tests to obtain his certification in good practices in the handling of refrigerant gases. For its part, Minambiente through the Ozone Technical Unit will provide these certified technicians with a kit of equipment for their professional practice.
Both the certification and the provision of tools for work performance will allow them to properly manage the substances that deplete the ozone layer and in this way, rejoin civilian life with a specific work option and contribute to the preservation of the ozone layer and reduce the emission of Effect Gases Greenhouse.
