Argentina. In a distribution center, located in Isidro Casanova, town of Partido de la Matanza, in the province of Buenos Aires, Mayekawa, carried out the installation of an ammonia and CO2 system there, being the first of its kind in that country and the second in Latin America.
In Ecuador was where the first Mayekawa installation in Latin America was carried out, it is an ice cream installation of 1,800 m2. This project was necessary to cool two cold rooms in the facility. Iván Fraccarolli, from Mayekawa Argentina, from the projects department, believes the installation was the first in Latin America.
The second facility in Argentina is located in a Carrefour distribution center and is listed as the largest in the region with 14,000m2.
The low-consumption ammonia system is in the engine room. There is no ammonia in the evaporators, so the installation guarantees a significant reduction in NH3. The cold chamber has no need for CO2 compressors and only requires a CO2 pump for the brine/CO2 system.
The pumps have low brake power (BHP) and small tube diameters. "The cost of installing CO2-brine [is also lower] because of the small diameters of the tubes," explained Ivan Fraccarolli, from the company's project department.
It's a very efficient low-pressure system with a high heat transfer coefficient, according to Mayekawa. A third installation of Mayekawa's CO2/ammonia system is planned for a 3,000 m2 Arca Continental ice cream facility in Mexico.
