United States. Chemours Company announced it will break records at the company's new HFO-1234yf production facility. The new plant, located at the Chemours Corpus Christi factory in Ingleside, Texas, will triple the capacity for its HFO-1234yf-based products, which are low global warming potential (GWP) and better for the environment.
Chemours will sell the refrigerant products and low global warming potential blends manufactured at this new plant under its trade name Opteon.
This new facility will use an innovative patented process to manufacture Opteon YF, an HFO-1234yf refrigerant used in automotive air conditioning, and Opteon, refrigerant blends that are used in a wide range of applications. This investment will create the world's largest hydrofluoroolefin (HFOs) manufacturing facility, and the location will allow Chemours to efficiently serve the growing market in North America and Europe, as well as the rest of the world.
"We have already seen tremendous adoption of our low-GWP Opteon refrigerants; and it is estimated that by the end of 2017 there will be more than 50 million cars rolling globally using the HFO-1234yf," said Paul Kirsch, president of Chemours Fluoroproducts. "Our market projections also suggest that our Opteon refrigerants could be used in more than 10,000 supermarket and commercial refrigeration systems by 2020."
