Chile. The Chilean Government launched the program called "Transforma Solar" with which it seeks to develop a competitive industry in the solar aspect, with good technological capacity and that allows diversifying the sector in that country.
The challenge that this program has posed is to take advantage of the existence of an exceptional solar resource and the need to provide economic energy solutions that contribute to improving the competitiveness of the national industry, in particular mining, to develop a national solar industry with high technological capabilities and export vocation, and a science and technology sector with international research capabilities connected to the needs of the industry, which is expected to become a relevant sector for the development of the country.
The collaborative process of construction of the Roadmap of the Solar Energy Program, had the participation of more than 100 representatives of the public, private, science and technology, and civil society sectors. The main goals of the program are:
• 7 to 10% of solar energy generated (>3.2 GW installed associated with the PES).
• LCOE pv technologies adapted USD 25 MWh.
• Attracting investments (MM U$D 9,380).
• Capture Local Value 55% (MM U$D 5,159).
• Generation of 250 MW in PV Self-Supply, 2000 GWht (1,700,000 ACS systems).
• Export of: Engineering Services, Technological Services, Photovoltaic Systems, etc.
"Having the Atacama Desert the best solar radiation in the world, it is very easy to imagine that Chile can become a relevant actor in solar generation and solar technological development, even more, when in the same environment, this solar potential coexists with an industry intensive in energy consumption, such as metal and non-metallic mining, in addition to the conditions of water scarcity," the official statement said.
Currently 1 GW is the installed capacity in Chile as of February 2016, and 7 to 10% is the projection of solar energy generated by 2025.
