International. The market for commercial building automation systems (BAS) is at a crossroads, according to studies by Navigant Research.
Large technology companies that have provided equipment and services for the control and automation of building systems are benefiting from the moderate but steady growth of a mature market, while technological innovation, new business models, and emerging competitors threaten to disrupt sustained revenue growth tied to the industry.
According to the research firm's new report, global revenue from commercial building automation products and services is expected to grow from $67.1 billion in 2016 to $102 billion in 2025.
"BAS communications and hardware infrastructure networks improve the performance of complex business systems," said Casey Talon, principal research analyst at Navigant. "The rise of smart building software and services and open communication protocols represent a source of disruption to the traditional BAS market, creating a new competitive reality."
BAS's top marketers recognize this market evolution and are introducing new versions of their BAS offerings, as well as creating complementary smart solutions, according to the report. The result is an increasingly dynamic landscape of diverse offerings during a time when many customers are looking to comply with building codes, save on utility costs, and meet sustainability goals.
