Colombia. The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Energy Mining Planning Unit (UPME) recently launched a pedagogical campaign to sensitize the Colombian population about the existence and benefits of the energy efficiency label.
The energy efficiency label is a visible notice with information on consumption and energy performance indicator, performance classification and technical characteristics of an equipment, which will allow consumers and users to compare between different equipment and identify those that have more favorable characteristics.
This measure of the national government seeks to encourage producers to increase the energy efficiency of the appliances they produce, reduce energy consumption, protect consumers to make informed decisions and obtain savings on their utility bills, and finally protect the environment with the reduction of CO2 emissions.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the Energy Mining Planning Unit (UPME) will carry out socialization campaigns to publicize the equipment and its label, teach how to read it and promote its use. For more information see here.
In this regard, the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction (CCCS) reiterated its commitment to initiatives that contribute to improving the energy efficiency of this type of equipment and reducing CO2 emissions. "We positively value government initiatives aimed at this purpose and express our readiness to contribute to environmental protection, sustainable development and consumer protection," the official statement said.
