International. Danish manufacturer Advansor revealed that it is working on the world's largest known industrial CO2 refrigeration system at a lettuce plant in the Netherlands.
The brand new lettuce processing plant, by the Staay Food Group, will use modern refrigeration technology and urban-type structures - agriculture, to grow lettuce indoors with special LED lights.
The project would have a total capacity of more than 3.36 megawatts (MW), dividing this capacity between seven transcritical CO2 racks. The company expects to have all seven racks delivered to contractors during the second half of September.
The evaporation capacity of the system will reach a temperature range with different loads; including 0.53 MW at -7°C, 1.87 MW at -5°C, 0.78 MW at 0°C and 0.03MW at -28°C. In addition, the systems will also provide 0.15 MW of refrigeration for air conditioning and its refrigeration purpose.
In total, the system will use Bock 45 compressors, consisting of 28 medium temperature compressors, 14 parallel compressors and 3 frost compressors.
Advansor also equipped the transcritical CO2 systems with plate heat exchangers that provide around 600 kilowatts (kW) of heat recovery.
