International. To address the replacement of HCFC-22 refrigerant in the mobile marine sector, ASHRAE has partnered with other international organizations to organize a conference titled "Sustainable Management of Refrigeration Technologies in the Fisheries and Mobile Marine Sectors".
The conference will be held from January 11 to 13, 2017, in Bangkok, Thailand. It is co-organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), ASHRAE, the International Refrigeration Institute (IIR) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) with the support of the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Department of Industrial Works.
With 80% of marine refrigeration systems using HCFC-22, the worldwide phase-out of this refrigerant needs to be addressed in developed countries and developing economies, according to UNEP.
"ASHRAE is committed to finding alternatives to refrigerants with high global warming potential," said former ASHRAE President David Underwood. "The global shift to new refrigerants (and in some cases back to old ones, to natural refrigerants) means that many new refrigeration investment decisions will be made in the near future. ASHRAE is involved in making these decisions through our standards, research and conferences like these. This conference will bring together leaders in this field from developed and developing countries to successfully implement the transition to new refrigerants."
