International. Bitzer's Schaufler Academy has received the Deutscher TGA-2016 award in the new building category for its energy-efficient and environmentally friendly design.
The compressor manufacturer's international training center is located in Rottenburg-Ergenzingen, Germany, on the grounds of Bitzer's competence center for screw compressors.
At the Schaufler Academy, heating and cooling are provided by efficient heat pumps, an underground dormant storage (ice storage), a solar thermal collector, and a combined heat and power system. The ice storage system temporarily collects available thermal and cooled energy, which can be recovered when required. This allows Bitzer to balance the fluctuating power supply, while also using renewable energy sources for heating and cooling.
"We have installed a heat pump with two Bitzer Orbit 8 scroll compressors of type GSD80295 for heating and cooling the building. With their high efficiency at full load and partial load and the width application limits for which you know them, these compressors are ideal for reverse cycle heat pump systems," said Armin Walz, director of application engineering at Bitzer.
