International. Johnson Controls announced that two of its York Affinity residential air conditioners and a residential heat pump of the same brand have been recognized with the Energy Star as the Most Efficient of 2016, when combined with the brand's smart thermostat.
This designation is given to the most efficient products among those that qualify for Energy Star certification. This is the fifth consecutive year that York systems have earned this recognition.
In order to be named Energy Star Most Efficient 2016, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that product characteristics must include:
• Performance levels up to 20.0 seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) and energy efficiency ratio (EER) of 12.5 for cooling and heating performance, and 10 seasonal heating performance factor (HSPF) for heat pumps.
• Ability to send and receive information from at least one system controller.
• Automatic configuration of the appropriate settings to the controlled equipment.
• Ability to record error codes and transmit in plain text.
• Ability to provide alerts to homeowners in plain text, including service and maintenance alerts.
