International. Companies involved in U.S. construction plan to intensify their involvement in green building over the next three years, according to the new Global Green Building Trends study conducted by Dodge Data & Analytics, with support from United Technologies Corp. and its UTC Climate, Controls & Security business.
The U.S. is also one of the world leaders in the percentage of companies that plan to build new green institutional projects and do green retrofits on existing buildings.
According to the report, construction in the U.S. should see an increase in the share of green labor in the coming years, largely as a result of companies intensifying their participation in the green construction industry. A growing percentage of respondents foresee that more than 60% of their projects would be green projects – from 24% of respondents in 2015 to 39% in 2018. Figures from respondents projecting that less than 15% of their projects would be certified green fell from 41% in 2015 to 27% in 2018.
While this increase in the share of green construction is impressive, it is significantly smaller than many developing countries included in the survey. For example, Brazil expects a six-fold growth (from 6% to 36%) in the percentage of companies that carry out the majority of their green projects; five-fold growth is expected in China (from 5% to 28%); and a four-fold growth is expected in Saudi Arabia (from 8% to 32%).
